Default .:: Repeating Repetition ::. [JmK]

Today I will teach you a stunning visual and particularly useful audio technique. Upon first glance of my piece below (without actually reading), the immediate thought that will come to your head is: ?Fucking Herb Needs a Drastic Revision of This Piece.? Upon reading it once, though, you will come to understand the beauty that I spoke of. A true Biggie or Pun fan will enjoy this technique.

REPETITION:

How many years has it been? It?s far too many too many,
Since many blunts were a?sparked without a penny to penny,
Since we would, break to deal and deal with hectic customers,
Dealing the break away for earn and extra cut to burn,
Fucking up us silly fucks fucked like silly much too much,
Silly to really trust we?d really buckle up such and such;
Regarding to school and buckles, so we just fuelled our struggle,
Strugling with tools of struggle, us cruel and troubled.

I can?t spot all the spots of repetition, but you get the point from reading the above (it seems difficult but it?s rather easy for an experienced head to do).

The most important thing you should know is that it?s all in the word?s you choose. I?ve chosen words with more than one meaning and/or use (?many? [multiple uses in general English], penny to penny [money to spend], deal and deal [sell drugs and put up with], ?fuck? [great word for repetition, million uses], ?silly? [as in silly and a lot and stupid]?you get the point). I?ve also chosen words that over emphasize the meaning in a positive way (many too many, much too much), and popular sayings which as a whole change meanings (such and such and buckle up [get focused, as well as belt buckle...]). I also focused on points where I could up the repetition randomly (all the ?to?s and too?s,? the ?up?s,? the ?really?s,? the ?since?s?? the list goes on). This piece could be completely rewritten without using homophones, but I?ll leave that up to you.

HOWEVER! And it?s a largely large however.

A piece that contains only repetition, without basic techniques that a normal piece would use (metaz, multis, allitz, similies, proper topic, creativity, inners, assonance, etc, etc, etc?) will find itself getting the ?Fucking Herb Needs a Drastic Revision of This Piece? feed spoke of in the introduction.

So why use repetition?

It?s a visual and sound buster. It?s a correlation of all techniques, and it drastically ups the flow (instant alliteration). Some consider this bar below from Big Pun as the pinnacle of all rhymes, and the reason this is so is because of, you guessed it, proper repetition.

"Dead in the middle of little italy, little did we know that we riddled with middle men who didn't do diddly."

Although the repetition is more subtle in this bar than in my verse, it?s still there in the sounds and the meanings. And of course the basic techniques hold it all together.

So, go forth, and kick some ass with this in your face technique. I can guarantee, that if used properly, you?ll do just that.

i feel what you trying to get at but at the same time you must know that using that repition isnt all that if you do it to many times... your example is pun and yes biggie done it but if you want to example for some of these new catz em dose it so dose wayne and alot of hip hop heads ... just not as much as old school emcees ... remember its a well known concept but its used on an eveyday basis... dont abuse it but yes it dose sound good if used correctly....

If you use intense repetition with strong varying rhyme schemes and dope content there's nothing wrong with having an entire piece based on it. It's a gimmick if used intensely in a piece. It could even be called a style (a difficult one to write everything in but nonetheless.) As for examples, I chose what was relevant for me; I don't listen to Wayne, and new cats should know there is FAR more to hiphop then lil wayne. Yes I could have chosen other lesser known cats but I chose what I considered well known mainstream artists with dope content and straight schemes. Another accesible example who does it perfectly to a tee is eminem.

Thanks for the feedback though. I guess I can see where your getting at. Yes I consider Lil Wayne HipHop, but I don't listen to, or enjoy, his lyrics.
