Default The Middle Class

The middle class,
Living in a delusional dream,
Blinded by the lies on the media screens.
It's easy, there's no struggle to survive,
But in a monotonous fallacy it's hard to truly feel alive.
Instincts are embedded in a biological sense,
So like it or not, they need to be fed.
And if you've never had to run or fight for your life,
You're safe but there's an empty feeling inside.
So we develop some fetish-ridden, corrupted philosophical model,
A complacent, manufactured state or become a slave to the bottle.
If you wanna be happy it's best to be ignorant,
If not, you realise your little suburban dream is not so innocent.

Because whole societies thrive
On the fruits of humanities crimes,
And for every one of your smiles,
There's a thousand who cry to sky
Begging for life or simply wishing they'd die.
You stupid motherfuckers, why don't you open your eyes?

And though i've been hypocritical,
I won't let myself be a pawn,
As recognising a problem, is how revolutions are born.
But it's hard when your position benefits from the oppression;
It's not human nature to fight for a lifestyle regression,
For fucks sake, we complained about the economic recession.

But in the current state of existence,
There's just not enough to go round,
While religion and politics keep us tied to the ground.
We belong in the clouds,
So stop waiting and start listening now,
What starts as a whisper
Can become the loudest of sounds,
And free the minds of the people,
As it sweeps through the crowd.

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. It's basically about how people in the modern Western world are oblivious to the fact that their lifestyle is a result of much oppression. For one to prosper another has to suffer. But it's not all one-sided. Although people of a 'privileged' circumstance have it easier in many ways, life has become a game and a boring depressing one. I think that it has a lot to do with the lack of fulfilment of basic animalistic instincts. As life gets easier, people have to use their instincts to survive less and less, therefore leading them to fill that hole with possessions, fetishes, drugs and other vices.

Maya Angelou-I know why the caged bird sings

A free bird leaps on the back of the wind
and floats downstream till the current ends
and dips his wing in the orange suns rays and
dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage
can seldem see through his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing

the whole purpose of the message was to demonstrate that we are all victims of circumstance. Rich, poor, or middle-class. We are all part of the same concept and each one needs the other to maintain it's own position.

In reference to belonging in the clouds, I attempt to address the issue that the available resources will not maintain out future on this planet indefinitely. I'm not saying that globalisation and incidentally space colonisation is the answer, my point lies in the fact that unless we are will to regress and become satisfied with much less than the current living/social standards in the world, there is no other option than to continue on the path of evolution which will mean finding a way for the humanity to no longer need our home-planet and conventional resources. Religion and politics are the major players in undermining and preventing the timely initiation of such an opportunity. Unless we are willing to cull more than half of the humans alive to allow for an abundance of resources for the remaining inhabitants it would be realistic to say that we need to find new resources elsewhere and furthermore otherworldly accommodation for the excess amount of humans. religion and politics are fighting this every step of the way.

Once again, this is not the answer, I'm not entirely convinced that a desirable answer even exists. We may have already past the point of no return.

The current foundations for the understanding of natural evolution allows one to confidently say that we humans are at the pinnacle. If evolution occurs both physically and cognitively, human beings are diving into the realms of the unknown. We are evolving naturally as does every other organism, however we have changed so much of our environment that would usually dictate that natural evolutionary process, that our natural and autonomous process of evolution is being directly affected by our own creations. The implications of this are so far unknown.

When I said we belong in the clouds, that was a metaphor pertaining to the fact that our species id of the highest order but it could also be literal in the sense that if we will not willingly regress (which is almost impossible based on observations of the nature of all living things), the only hope for us is to reach a point where we are no longer controlled by this planet. A future in which we have learned enough to be able to manipulate our surrounding to facilitate exponential growth of our race in years to come. In other words take control of more than just this planet on which we rely.

I don't know if this is the right way. Personally I would rather it not be. But historical observations have taught us that things never move backwards. If this is the case and life itself will continue to push forward, we have only the option of continuing the trend of domination be exploring new frontiers, or perish when life-itself continues it's path and leaves us once superior human beings only a memory in it's wake.

And thanks for the feedback people, I'm new to this. I am not a hip-hop artist at all, I'm a singer/songwriter and guitarist, my style is folk rock. I feel that the hip-hop style of poetry is much more suited to certain messages so I have written some stuff in that style that I don't know whether or not I can turn into songs but I felt that might be appreciated in this forum. Thanks again guys...
