This is a question mostly for producers, but emcees too. How do you prepare yourself for a new session? What do you need to get ready? I'm asking this because I just graduated from BU for recording arts, and I was quickly placed at a new job at a Recording Studio. I did my first session, and at the time it was sounding amazing to me. I really thought that it sounded great, but then a few days later when I opened the session again, I realized the mic was clipping and it wasn't as crisp as I'd hoped it would be. What can I do to be certain that I don't overlook things next time I get in the studio. Do you have any tips? Alright thanks Also for emcees what do you like from a producer or engineer when you are recording a track? What do you look for in a great recording and what are you trying to get out of a session in the studio? |

when im producing, i never EVER put anything out without going over it with fresh ears at least once, sometimes twice. and then mastering it with fresh ears as well. so record...go through your basic mixing chain if you want, then wait till the next day...and do all the mixing...till it sounds good..then wait till the next day and adjust some more and then do the mastering... listening fatigue will always fuck up your recordings... as an emcee, when i go into a studio, i want the engineer/producer to add his own flavor to the mix. I want to hear something that i cant recreate myself at home..thats the point of spending money on a studio. I also like to see a friendly, creative atmosphere. If the engineer is all buesness like "ok..next cut..go go go" imma sound like shit on the mic because 1. im being rushed 2. im not in the place i need to be.
